Save Money by Pampering Mom on Her Special Day

Mother’s Day is upon us and it is important to pamper that special woman in our lives. Of course we would all love to send our mother to Paris or Milan for a weekend shopping spree, but let’s face it, we just don’t have the cash for that. There are easier ways to show her you care!

Take a scenic drive – Pack up a small picnic full of your mother’s favorite snacks and take a little spin around the countryside or a nearby forest preserve

Take her on a surprise trip – It can be to a local park, day spa, or even an outdoor concert.

Be creative and make something – There are endless possibilities with this one. Write her a poem, paint a picture, create your own picture frame with photos of you and her, or even give your mom IOU coupons and vouchers (redeemable anytime).

DIY Day Spa and Pampering – It doesn’t cost a lot of money to create your own day spa experience for your mom. You can create a relaxing environment in her own bathroom.

Baseball Game – Take your sports fanatic mom out to the ballpark. She would love to spend her special day with you rooting for her favorite team from the stands.

Take her camping or hiking – If your mom is obsessed with nature and national parks, take her on a weekend camping trip. Gear up for outdoor adventures such as hiking and cliff jumping with your mom.

When all else fails, drink! – Find a nice winery for a day of tasting and relaxing with your mom. If she’s not a fan of wine, make her favorite drink(s) at home and just spend a quality day with your mom.

Time to Catch Up on Sleep Because We’re Losing an Hour this Weekend!

Daylight Savings this Sunday!

It’s time once again to set our clocks forward by one hour. How great to have an
extra hour of light! However, it can be a bit rough on our biological clocks. Did
you know that in a 2008 New England Journal of Medicine study, they found that
there is a 5% increased risk of heart attack during the first 3 days after the time
change? Well, we don’t want anyone to stress out over the time change, so here
are a few tips that may help you prepare so that you aren’t thrown off-balance the
rest of the week.

1-Get plenty of sleep and try to limit your stress levels the week after daylight
savings time.
2-Go to bed ½ an hour earlier than usual on Friday and an hour earlier than
usual on Saturday. Get up earlier on Saturday and Sunday. This can help your
body adjust over a couple of days to the changing time rather than forcing it to
adjust all at once.
3-Try to eat meals earlier than normal on Saturday.
4-As much as we love to sleep in, it’s not recommended to do so on Sunday.
That will simply make it even harder to get up Monday morning when you have to
go to work.
5-Generally, people normally set their clocks ahead just before hitting the sack
on Saturday; but try setting them ahead earlier in the day so you can start
adjusting sooner to the time change.

And, as always, don’t forget to change the batteries in your smoke alarms!

In case you didn’t get the memo, February 22 is National Margarita Day! It just so happens that that’s today! Celebrate your hump day with a refreshing glass of your favorite tequila, triple sec, and lime concoction. Or you could spice things up a little bit and choose another popular flavor like strawberry, mango, limeade, or raspberry.

Did you know that the margarita was invited during the Great Depression, but nobody knows for sure who invented it? The most accepted of all stories is that the Margarita was invented in October 1941, in Ensenada, Mexico, by bartender Don Carlos Orozco. One slow afternoon, Don Carlos was experimenting with mixing new drinks when a prestigious visitor arrived: Margarita Henkel, the daughter of a German ambassador, who lived with her husband near the city. Don Carlos offered the drink to Margarita, and named it after her for being the first person to taste it. He concocted a mixture of equal parts tequila, orange liqueur and lime, served over ice in a salt-rimmed glass.

Just make sure that you are responsible with consuming your margaritas, or any other alcoholic beverage. The safest way to go is just having a drink at your home and relax for the night, but if you decide to go out to celebrate National Margarita Day please make sure you have a designated driver with you! California Insurance for the Superstitious 13

Today is Friday the 13th . For many superstitious people out there it is the day to avoid, the day to stay indoors and not go out no matter what. The fear of Friday the 13th has been named friggatriskaidekaphobia or paraskevidekatriaphobia (even though spell check doesn’t agree) and there are an estimated 17-21 million people who are affected by this in the United States. People do not travel or conduct business on this day due to many of the superstitions that are believed to occur on this day. If you are one of the many friggatriskaidekaphobes or paraskevidekatraphbes then you’re going to do your best to stay away from:

Ladders
Black Cats
Mirrors
Umbrellas
Salt

If you are superstitious you will probably change your daily routine and avoid all these things. If you’re not superstitious you should still be sure that your California Insurance is up to date because guess what, Friday the 13th occurs three times this year. If you break an expensive antique mirror, if you get freaked out and kick your neighbor’s cat out of impulse, or if , by some chance , there is a person on the top of that ladder and it falls, you’re going to be glad you have insurance. You never know what could happen on this day and you want to be protected!
